MESSIANIC
PROPHECIES:
GOD’S
NAME APPLIED TO MESSIAH and
MESSIAH
BORN 483 YEARS AFTER REBUILDING OF WALL OF JERUSALEM
Prophecies:
Isaiah
9:6-7 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government
shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor,
The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the
increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of
David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and
with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will
perform this.
Susie: The
Messiah would be called “Mighty God” and “Everlasting Father,” or as the Complete Jewish Bible renders it,
“Father of Eternity.” These are clearly
names for the One true God.
Jeremiah
23:5-6 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a
righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute
judgment and justice in the earth. In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel
shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, The
Lord Our Righteousness.
Susan: The
word translated “Lord” is “Adonai” which is the plural of “Adon” and can be
translated, “Lord, Lord, Lord.” It is the concept of master or owner.
Therefore, Adonai is the one I to whom I answer.
Susie: We
submit to Him as our master, but note that He provides our righteousness. Jesus
was called “Lord” by His disciples, and He died on the cross in order to
cleanse us from sin and transfer His own righteousness to those who believe.
Fulfillment:
Philippians
2:9-11Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which
is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of
things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that
every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of
God the Father.
Susie: The
name that is higher than any other name is God as applied to God the Father. Jesus
(God saves) was declared to be equal with God the Father. Jesus said, “I and
the Father are one” (John 10:30).
Philippians
2:10-11 (CJB) that in honor of the name given Yeshua, every knee will bow — in
heaven, on earth and under the earth — and every tongue will acknowledge that
Yeshua the Messiah is Adonai — to the glory of God the Father.
Susan: Paul
underscored for the Messianic Community (church) at Philippi that Jesus is
going to be recognized as Lord (Adonai) by all people on the earth and even
those under the earth and already in Heaven. This is fulfillment of Jeremiah
23:6.
Prophecy:
Daniel
9:24-26 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to
finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make
reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to
seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. Know therefore
and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to
build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and
threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall,
even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be
cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come
shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a
flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
MacArthur
Study Bible notes:
9:24–26
Seventy weeks…from…until. These are weeks of years, whereas weeks of days are
described in a different way (10:2, 3). The time spans from the Persian
Artaxerxes’ decree to rebuild Jerusalem, ca. 445 B.C. (Neh. 2:1–8), to the
Messiah’s kingdom. This panorama includes: 1) 7 weeks or 49 years, possibly
closing Nehemiah’s career in the rebuilding of the “street and wall,” as well
as the end of the ministry of Malachi and the close of the OT; 2) 62 weeks or
434 more years for a total of 483 years to the first advent of Messiah. This
was fulfilled at the triumphal entry on 9 Nisan, A.D. 30 (see notes on Matt.
21:1–9).
Susie: Daniel’s
prophecy gives a specific time in history for the Messiah to be recognized as
being on earth. It can be confusing with the weeks of days and weeks of years,
but mathematically it all works out.
Fulfillment:
Matthew
2:1, 16, 19 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod
the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem . . .
Then Herod, when he saw that he was
mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the
children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years
old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the
wise men . . . But
when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream
to Joseph in Egypt
Luke
3:1 & 23 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men,
was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in
Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under,
according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.
Susie: Enough
is known about Herod the Great to fit his reign into a time frame that would allow
people to calculate dates concerning Jesus fulfilling Daniel’s predictions
concerning the Messiah. As the quote from the MacArthur study Bible states,
many scholars see the fulfillment of the 483 years as happening at Jesus’s
Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem when the people shouted “Hosanna.” There is controversy as to how to interpret
Daniel’s prophecy. We will leave it at this: Jesus’s birth occurring during the
reign of Herod the Great and other datable events during His lifetime fit within
Daniel’s timeframe.
